Yes, in fact you can.
If you for whatever reason wanted to subscribe to Netflix using a Visa Vanilla Prepaid gift card, it is in fact possible. I had a hard time finding a definite answer to the question while searching Google, so I decided to answer it here, once and for all. You can, indeed use a Visa Vanilla gift card to pay for a Netflix subscription.
I decided to try it out since I’m away from home and happened to pull out cash to use while on “vacation”. I purchased a $25 Visa Vanilla gift card, went to the website listed on the back of the card and registered the card with a zip code. This is important, as these cards tend not to work for online payments unless you register them first.
After that I entered the card information into my Netflix account and was able to restart my membership without any issue. Many answers on various websites including Yahoo Answers have stated that this will not work, but I’m here to confirm that it does work and it’s essentially the only way to pay for Netflix using “cash” instead of a debit or credit card.
Just thought I’d clear that up.
No you can no longer use a gift card. I called Netflix and they told me they no longer accept prepaid cards because they want to bill monthly and if the money runs out they can no longer charge you. They don’t want that.
Hm, Netflix may say otherwise, but I can’t imagine they can tell the difference if you activate the card with an address and everything. I’ll have to give it another try to see if it still works.
Just tried with a gift card registered with address. Didn’t work, darn it!
Weird, I’ll have to give it a try again sometime. Maybe it’s only a certain card that works..
I just tried with a Vanilla Visa, can confirm it does not work anymore. Netflix recognizes the card, and rejects it.
Recurring monthly payments are no longer allowed on prepaid Visa cards
Not true – I use Vanilla Visa or MasterCard for subscription services elsewhere.
True – It’s just Netflix that is refusing the gift cards for a while now. Keep also in mind, Netflix used to pre-authorize the card for the monthly payment when you first sign up. So if you were trying to sign up with gift card with zero balance on it, it would not work.
I’m trying to use an onevanilla card and I registered and everything and it says this card does not work or something like that. Can someone help me?
I haven’t tried to do this recently, but some people have reported that the method described no longer works. I haven’t verified yet.
Yes you can I JUST used my walmart money card today!
what about a greendot card??
i just tried a walmart card and nothing! Also I tried my unemployment card rejected that also!
i just spoke to netflix and yes you can use a pre paid card however you have to contact the card company make sure it allows recurring payments is international 1 other thing darnit, i cant find the email, but yes its possible
If I do use a prepaid/ gift card for monthly charge service and the card eventually runs out… What happens? Will my subscription just end or will the bank start somehow charging me?
If I use a prepaid/ gift card for a monthly charge service and the money on the card runs out… What happens? Does my subscription cancel due to insufficient funds or does the bank somehow find a way to charge me?
It’ll just cancel
Thank you for your help!!!! I was worried
It does work. I tried it today
Works fine for me! I also use the visa vanalia card…
Hi I just tried to get Netflix with the vanilla Gift Card and yes it does work all you have to do is go to onevanilla.com and register your card and add a zip code then go to Netflix and put the same zip code /info
So Netflix ask for a name and I don’t know what name to put on file.
You have to go online and add a name and address to your gift card first and then use that on Netflix.
Trying to use a VanillaPrepaid Mastercard on Netflix and it won’t allow me to.
I haven’t tried in quite awhile. Have you added a billing address to the card on its website?
can u use a normal prepaid visa debit card
I haven’t tried recently, but I would think so as long as it had an address attached.
