Patrick Klepek’s informative look at piracy and The Witness

One of my favorite gaming personalities, Patrick Klepek (of Kotaku and formerly Giant Bomb) recently posted an interesting and informative look at the world of video game piracy and how it is affecting the popular new game The Witness. The video is only five minutes long but Patrick goes over a lot of information and touches on both sides of the issue. Definitely worth a watch!

I’ll admit, I’ve dabbled in piracy over the years, but as digital storefronts have gotten better and easier to use, I’ve actually found it more of a hassle to pirate anything these days. Time is money, and the process of buying a digital product is so easy these days that it’s not even worth the hassle of trying to save a few bucks. Besides the ease of use issue, I’ve found it more rewarding to actually support those who work hard to entertain us. I like seeing my iTunes movie collection grow, and as much as I love video games, I couldn’t even think of robbing a hard working developer, potentially deterring them from continuing to make high quality games.

Please don’t pirate!

Troubles uploading to YouTube?

I’ve had issues trying to upload videos all day today. At first I tried using the ‘Capture’ app, however the video would get to 100% and then show the upload paused. When I hit continue it’d start over at 0% again. So I tried using iMovie and I get a connection error. Lastly I tried uploading via YouTube.com and I’m hit with ‘this is taking longer than expected’ and an infinitely stuck ‘processing video’ bar.

Anyone else having these issues? I’ve seen a few mentions on Twitter, but nothing official from YouTube.

I heard this song last week on ‘Ra Ra Riot Radio’ on iTunes radio and have been in love with it since. Great song and music video.

I hadn’t previously heard of the band Girls, and maybe you haven’t either so I’ll share a bit of information from their Wikipedia page. They formed in San Francisco in 2007 by two members, Christopher Owens (who spent most of his life growing up in the cult Children of God) and Chet “JR” White. They released two albums, Album (2009) and Father, Son, Holy Ghost before breaking up during the summer of 2012.

It’s unfortunate that they’re no longer together as I really enjoy their sound. Check it out:

Darth Gumballs Plays: Dead Island – 001

I’ve recently started to play around with streaming to Twitch in the typical ‘Let’s Play’ video format, and I find it adds a bit of enjoyment to playing games. Even though I know for a fact no one is watching my streams it still feels different to be playing in front of a “potential” (however unlikely) audience, whether it being someone watching the live stream or watching the recorded video on YouTube later.

I’m using OBS to stream and record my videos locally. I may put together a sort of tutorial video in the future for those who want to see exactly what the process looks like (it’s not incredibly difficult, but it may not be common sense either). Anyway, for whatever reason the actual stream on Twitch of this video was pretty choppy and ugly looking. I was downloading a few things on Steam and on my Xbox so I’m hoping that’s the culprit and next time the stream will look better.
